Language Arts – Newspaper I & II

 

 

 

The Learner will be able to know the characteristics and differences between opinion, feature, news, and sports articles as well as op-ed and non-news items such as opinion polls.

 

 

The Learner will be able to write a variety of types of articles for publication that are clear and grammatically correct.

 

 

The Learner will be able to know how to use a variety of sources for good news gathering.

 

 

The Learner will be able to know the qualities of a newsworthy story.

 

 

The Learner will be able to use technology to incorporate graphics, font styles, and other elements of newsprint to form coherent layouts.

 

 

The Learner will be able to use a variety of story leads that grab the reader’s attention as well as hint at the focus of the article.

 

 

The Learner will be able to understand a story’s angle and how it affects an intended audience.

 

 

The Learner will be able to know several interviewing techniques.

 

 

The Learner will be able to know the qualities of good news story organization.

 

 

The Learner will be able to understand how editors work to improve the quality of stories and the paper as a whole.

 

 

The Learner will be able to know the strategies for improving the readership of a story.

 

 

The Learner will be able to know the qualities of a good photo or graphic.
